IndieHackers /launch draft
Founder voice, problem-first. A controller who missed a remit-to change. Five-detector AP auditor for 10–100 person services firms. Daily digest.

we built PODetect because the email about the new remit-to address arrived two months too late.
if you run the AP queue at a 50-person agency, you already know the scene. a controller spends an afternoon on the inbox, OKs the clean invoices, and moves on. the audit work — the real checks — happens in the gaps between emails, and it almost never gets done at all. the controller is too busy keeping the queue moving.
two months ago I watched a controller at a friend-of-mine's agency miss a vendor's remit-to change because the email landed between two exceptions and they assumed it was a duplicate. by the time they noticed, three weeks of invoices had been routed to a domain that looked right and wasn't. it's the kind of thing that nobody catches until a vendor chases the AP team for payment, and by then the recovery is at best awkward.
that's the pattern we kept hitting. the vendor master drifts in the dark. duplicates slip past. PO matches don't line up. sales-tax anomalies are caught only at year-end. split allocations go into the wrong cost-center and nobody knows until the P&L is being closed.
so we built PODetect.
PODetect reads every invoice that comes into a finance team's shared inbox and runs five checks before a journal entry is ever posted. vendor-master-drift detection. duplicate-invoice detection. PO-match gap detection. sales-tax anomaly detection. missing split-allocation detection. anything that passes all five posts silently to the ledger. anything that fails one of them goes straight into a daily Slack or email digest.
the controllers I've talked to don't want another dashboard. they want a digest they can clear in three minutes and a queue that doesn't grow on them. PODetect is built for that. owner-configured for one working week. after that the controllers only see exceptions.
what it ships with today
- vendor-master-drift detection — new remit-to addresses, banking changes, and look-alike shell companies are surfaced the day they arrive, not at year-end.
- duplicate-invoice detection — same vendor, same ref, same amount within 90 days? blocked, not posted.
- PO-match gap detection — short deliveries, overbilling, and stale unit prices are flagged before posting.
- sales-tax anomaly detection — wrong jurisdiction, exempt-but-taxed, tax-included-when-it-shouldn't-be.
- missing split-allocation detection — costs miscoded to a single project/partner/cost-center when the vendor clearly split them.
- daily Slack or email digest — quiet, boring, only true exceptions. three minutes a week.
where we are
[N agencies in pilot] · 99.4% match coverage on the last 30 days · digest clears in five minutes or less.
where we'd value feedback
if you run an AP queue at a 10–200 person services firm, we'd value brutal feedback from a live account. what's still rough? what's missing? what would make the digest unusable on a Tuesday morning?
